If you've never read Sedaris, I might suggest one of his earlier books first, specifically "Me Talk Pretty One Day" or "Naked." They are all collections of his essays, and now that he's famous, his demeanor has changed a bit, which might be why the earlier respondent accurately called the more recent Corduroy more of a downer. His earlier works are fresher and more innocent - in one of his "Corduroy" essays, his sister calls him on something and asks something like "this isn't going to show up in one of your books is it?" I think his life has gotten more complicated now that everyone close to him has become a recognizable "character" to millions of fans.

Yes, yes, yes! It's hilarious and touching. Also read Barrel Fever and Me Talk Pretty One Day (actually, all of his books!). His radio shows are also fabulous. Enjoy!

yes, a bit of a downer compared to his other books because he deals directly with his own family and his mother's death, but definitely worth the read, as are all of his books.

I tried a few passages, and I was bored to tears. I don't know what all the fuss is about.
