I checked in a number of databases that contain biographical information about authors and came up with nothing. I even checked the website for Scholastic (her publisher) to see if they supplied any information. They did not. You can see a list of books that she wrote or co-wrote by going to www.worldcat.org and inserting her name (switzer, merebeth). Did the book your son read have any iformation? Actually, I would not be surprised if there is nothing there either. My guess (and it's only a guess) is that she worked for Scholastic in the 1980s and 1990s as sort of a staff writer. She seems to have been connected with a series of books about animals--chipmunks, pandas, penguins, etc. I hope this helps.

I just saw cafelady's answer, and that looks to be the most useful info.
