I need to read something, something that is about at a level of the DaVinci Code to the level of Artemis Fowl. I want realistic sad or fantasy stories. The person who gives me the most that I agree with gets Best Answer... GO!

I decided today that I'm giving everyone a book for Christmas this year and I need some ideas. I thought perhaps you lovely people would like to help me! These are the people that I can't find anything for and what their personalities are like:

Sister-in-law1: SAHM. High-strung. Always pregnant, so she can't handle anything even slightly sad.
Sister-in-law2: Quiet. Likes horses. She knits.
Brother-in-law: Goofy, but rather pissy and anti-social when he wants to be. Likes things that are controversial and challenging.
Brother1: Typical, modern thirty-something. Computer-geek. Likes Jon Stewart-type humour.
Brother2: Has every single book C.S. Lewis ever wrote. Big on discussing Theology.

The coldness bestowed upon them all. It crept up each one of their backs, it finally sent a trembling chill through out there entire bodies and into there fingers and toes.
"There was no going back," dale thought to himself.
Robert uttered a quick confirmation to dales thought, as he threw another stick into the fire "There's no going back now boys we are almost there."
Charlie was sitting down as close as he could to the fire with out burning himself.
"Don't fall asleep now Charles, you don't know what else lurks in those woods," Robert muttered.
Charlie rubbed his hands together, he reminisced as he said "I'm betting there ain't nothing worse than those damn worpels."
Suddenly a loud shrill, as the sound of a trumpet came from the mountain above. The three boys froze with sudden panic. No sooner had the trumpet blasted, had it come to a bellowing echo across the far reaches of the Fairington and then had bruptly stopped. Robert was the first to move out of his enlightened..

I'm seventeen a junior in high school and I've written a book. The origional copy is on notebook paper. It is over three hundred pages long and a mystery. Since I was eleven I have wanted to be a writer, but not a mystery writer historical fiction is more my thing. I know that isn't typically a girl genre, but I can't get the idea out of my head. I write everyday, but I am starting to wonder if I am wasting my time. Do people read anymore. My English teacher told me once that people only want to read books by well known successful authors. I wanted to know if I should finish typing it and send it to a few publishers or if I should just throw it away. Am I just dreaming here? I know it is unrealistic but it is all I have ever wanted. I don't care if I'm rich or if I have to work and do my writing on the side to support myself. All I want to do is be a writer. Should I just listen to what everyone's been telling me and give up on my dream or should I pursue it?

The set of books is "Great Books of the Modern World" by Encyclopaedia Britannica Inc. I don't care if they are used or not, so long as they are easily readable and with no pages missing.

When entering in book publisher locations into a inventory system which allows for the following "City, State, Country" Which is the correct usage?
London, UK
London, England, UK
London, Great Britian
Some of these books are very old, so would it be better to set the standard for time periods? For example a book printed in Virginia Colony would say "Virginia Colony, British Empire"
I am my own boss & I am trying for consistancy.
Any ideas?

If you thought you were going to be a survivor of some sort of apocalyptic event and would be one of only a small number of humans left alive on an otherwise survivable planet, what ten-- and only ten-- books would you pack to refer to in the post-apocalyptic period? Answer carefully... the future of the human race may depend on it.
