If you thought you were going to be a survivor of some sort of apocalyptic event and would be one of only a small number of humans left alive on an otherwise survivable planet, what ten-- and only ten-- books would you pack to refer to in the post-apocalyptic period? Answer carefully... the future of the human race may depend on it.

I'd like to be able to go out and actually buy 10 books and store them away-- so the best answers will include specific titles and authors and actually be useful (in addition to enjoyable) for survival in a post-apocalyptic period. So what version of the bible? What medical text book? Etc.

You only need one. 'The Way Things Work' which when you get done reading vols I & II will help you rebuild civilization as you want it to be, because it tells you how to build a forge, windmills to convert electricity a simple lathe and many other things. So, you wouldn't need 10 books only the one. Although you might want a book by Dr. Richard Schulze the number one herbalist in the world to show you what plants to pick to use to keep you healthy too.
