Im at the public library now, and looking for something to do for a few hours, so was wondering if anyone could recommend some good books, or authors. If novels, preferably non-fiction, but other than novels, just general interest subjects would be good. Just something that would be interesting. ie, religion, life, etc. Pretty much anything people want to recommend, and why. Thanks very much. Time is an essence....

Please provide examples of the authors work (Titles only will do.)

I can only think of two and I am attempting to "broaden my horizons." :D

I need to reference where this quote came from:
"I had far rather walk, as I do, in daily terror of eternity, than feel that this was only a children's game in which all the contestants would get equally worthless prizes in the end."
If you know where it can be found, please let me know!!
Thanks

I'm looking for good young adult novels that have been written within the past 5 years. The only genre restriction is nothing super scary! Also I would like these books (in your opinion) to be rated nothing more than PG. Thanks!

Particularly on this passage:

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."

It is very deep. But what do you think is he trying to say? What really is this kind of life that he is talking about?

I'm looking to expand my horizons and read more "classical" and thought provoking books. I've enjoyed Alexander Dumas' "Counte of Monte Cristo" and "Three Musketeers" but I thought "Man in the Iron Mask" was very dry and boring.

We say it like Missus...where does the R come from? Is Mrs. really Mistress? If so, why and when did it come to be pronounced missus?

There's nothing like sitting on a sunny beach reading a great trashy or frothy book, like Bergdorf Blondes or Flowers in the Attic. What are your favorite beach books?

I just picked up the original Trainspotting book by Irvine Welsh. and it is kind of hard to understand. I can read it but get confused some times. Is the screenplay book by John Hodge easier to read. And is it the exact same story as the one by Irvine?
