I agree with you...he left out key points that Columbus managed to put into the first two movies. I think that the other movies he directed were very good but Harry Potter was not up to the first two or even the fourth.

I think Alfonso Cuaron did a great job. Before him, Harry Potter was a cheese-fare, feel-good 'kids movie'. With the third-not anymore. With the 3rd, they grew up. They werent kids anymore. That's why the third movie is so different, cause like the book, everything changed. It was a turning point in the series. I do agree that the movie missed some key points, but unfortunately, that tends to happen whenever books are made into movies. All in all, i think Cuaron did a great job in paving the way for an older, darker and more mature Harry.

Actually Cuaron is by far the best director of the Harry Potter films. His prior works include the wonderful Y tu Mama Tambien, a great version of "The Little Princess" and the hip '98 version of Great Expectations.
I think a lot of people trashed his Potter film because they didn't take into account the fact that the third book was longer and more convoluted than the first two books. Of course he had to leave more out... far more happens in POA then in the first two books. He handled it admirably though, the story, even with it's time travel and twists and turns was easy to follow. His editing was far smoother than the first two and his location shots were far more enigmatic and evocative than any of Chris Columbus'. (BTW, Columbus is a hack who churns out pap for the masses... his filmography reads like a trip down trashy film lane.)
I think the reason so many people dislike Cuaron's POA is because it was far more mature and well-crafted than the first two films. In other words, it was TOO good. People were disappointed because they actually had to think... and because the third film was very, very dark.
I really wish they'd bring Cuaron back... at least then the Potter films could be both entertaining and artful.
And in response to the first reply... no, there were not two different directors for the first two films.
Both were directed by Christopher Columbus - http://imdb.com/name/nm0001060/

I actually think that the 3rd movie was the best one. Even though they had to leave a lot out the feel of the movie was more the feel of the books.
The 4th movie is the one that is just awful. I can't imagine that someone who had never read the book could have made anything out of that movie. I read somewhere that the studio had actually considered making 2 movies out of the 4th book. That would have been a good idea.

HEY .... to be honest with you, I didn't appreciated your comment. Alfonso Cuaron was a gr8 director, and just because he's got a different style doesn't mean he ain't good... MOST people loved the movie, and a lot liked it better than the first two.
