They shouldn't be written earlier than the 19th century and they should be available everywhere in the world. I know Rushdie. Is there anybody else with a bestseller Islamic novel?

Specifically English/Chinese descent, but in general too. The reason I ask is because I'm having a discussion with one of my friends, and we could only think of two people!! Before someone posts it, I totally agree that being a good writer has nothing to do with the colour of your skin and your race, but we were having a discussion about representation in literature. Anyway, thanks for your help!

The book was about a prince who set out on a journey. He encounters 3 men: one who can turn into a snake, one who can turn into an elephant and one who can turn into fire. The three travelers help the prince pass a series of challenges. I would love to be able to find this book from my past. Thanks for the help.

Which book would you say has the best starting lines?
For me it has been Charles Dickens' classi Tale of two cities, where he uses : “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness . . . .”
Awesome start! He has me hooked from the first line.

Which one do you like best and why?

He's in his late teens and really tough. he can beat up anything that moves. But he's also really nice to his loved ones.
He's actually really emotional but he keeps all that locked inside and has a really rough exterior.
I need help thinking of a good middle name that fits him. I'd like something pretty uncommon and maybe a little foriegn sounding (Asain or scandinavian?) but it needs to be believable in a modern setting.
Thanks in advance for your help, everyone. You guys on this site have helped me a lot with charactor names before so I know you can come up with some good ideas.

Personally, I think that Harry Potter shouldn't be banned--what's the point? It's a book series. It's not promoting witchcraft or anything and it teaches children valuable lessons. For those who believe it should stay banned: get over it. There's no harm in it.

If I want to get a novel published under a pseudonym, but I'm a minor, is there a way for me to not have my guardians find out? Should I get a PO box or something?

I haven't actually read it but I read the beginning. Some of the students in my class at school love it, I can see why, it was inspirational from the beginning. Sadly it has a tragic ending... read and you'll see... the story is a diary of a 15-year-old girl who unknowingly passes into the dark world of drugs and struggles to free herself. A must read for every teenager (and adults too), it shows the real side of teenage troubles and the dark realities. And yes, it is a real diary story, that's why the author's name is listed as 'anonymous'.

You can vote for more than 5 authors if you want, but try to put the ones you like the very best at the top of each list. I'll tally up the results, if there is enough participation, and show who got the most votes. If you feel like it, nominate an author whose books didn't live up to your expectations, whose work was so bad that it makes him a candidate for the Tripe Award.

ill read a little

"Sorry we're out of rooms right now, I'll make it comfier tomorrow"
"Thank you,Rat" She smiled and closed the door.I shuddered and sat down on the hard matress. The candle on the dresser flickered and died. I moved my way to the door. It was locked. I began to sweat and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. I heard the tapping of approaching dress shoes. The air began to feel icey.
"who's there?" I spun around squinting into the darkness.
"Boy...Come to me"
Long icey fingers gripped my shoulders and sat me down on the matress. A match flammed and illuminated the face.

That was just a little bit from it

Looking for a good book that encourages single women, not only in the hopes to find good love. But maybe also a good book that encourages those not interested in a relationship yet, but dealing with societies pressures to. Any ideas would be appreciated!
