I agree I wish that some of the people that are banning their children from reading teh books should pick the book up and read it they will not be able to put it down.
If I was their child i would get a copy of the book and hide it in my locker or something and read it. that is what I did whe my mother would not let me read certian books when I was younger. My mother now that I am an adult says that she is glad that I read the books that I was not supposed to read per her words. the more she told me I could not read the book I wanted to read it. That way I was reading and it is always important to keep reading what ever it is be it Harry Potter or War and Peace. Keep reading.

i hadnt heard that it was banned in some places but do think its absurd. Harry Potter probably teaches more about life in school-bullying, studying& making new friends etc than it does about witchcraft. Unfortunately there will always be people that make more out of small things because they dont understand.
It never works though, right across the board if something gets banned it instantly makes it more attractive so in the end it will probably get more readers

I agree with you. I think it's ridiculous that people are trying to ban Harry Potter. It's just a fictional book series, and if anything it gets kids more motivated to read. I don't see how people can see that as a bad thing. People are letting their religious beliefs get in the way of common sense.

I completely agree with you. Most of the people screaming about how evil the books are haven't even read them. They hear certain words and they automactically believe the books are promoting evil. If these people would actually read the books, they would realize that the opposite is true. These books are about fighting evil and doing what's good because it's the right thing to do. I don't think anyone should condem any book without first reading it. If they are worried about giving the author more money by purchasing their books, then they should go to their local library to get them. When you speak about something without having actually checked it out, it makes you ignorant. Unless they have actually read the books, they should really keep their mouths shut about things they know nothing about.

Some religions, cultures and closed-minded people believe that reading books like Harry Potter is "sinful" and will put the wrong ideas into people's heads so they censor these kinds of books and movies. I think it's really sad when people aren't given a choice to decide for themselves if a book is worth reading or a movie worth seeing.
When people live in a restricted environment they do one of two things - rebel and bring about the opposite effect of what the censors tried to do, or they blindly accept the censorship and become just like their censors - blind, narrow-minded and unable to accept points of view and perspectives that are different from their own.

I agree.
Harry Potter is awesome. There are much worse things out there than Harry Potter. What about Simpsons or South Park? Shouldnt it make more sence for people to try to ban them?
Next thing, people will be trying to ban Disney movies.

Banning books is wrong, period. People should be allowed to decide for themselves whether they want to or don't want to read a certain piece of literature, and in the case of children, parents should decided for only their own children, not other people's children. If a parent does not want their child to read something in the school library or the public library, they should tell the librarian not to let their child check it out, not tell the librarian to remove the book entirely so that no one else can read it too.

My sister wont allow her children to watch the Potter movies, among others. She wont even let them watch that old movie Jumanji ( I love that movie!) because she said it promotes witchcaraft. Ok thats fine, and her opinion, but it seems a little hypocritical when she lets them watch Night of the living dead and Dawn of the dead movies or any kind of Wearwolf or Vampire movie they want (which I love them all). Those Im sure should be considered satanic or something to her. How she thinks demonds and the undead are better for her kids than a litter wizardry I will never understand.

It is a personal decision as far as having it in your household or not. However, banning it from libraries or bookstores where people who want it can get it, is wrong. Let people decide for themselves. Personally, I love Harry Potter. I see nothing wrong with it. JK Rowling has created a wonderful universe from her own imagination. Plus, it gets kids reading. Anything that gets kids reading, is fine by me.

I like Harry Potter, but each parent has the right to make their own decisions about what books are allowed in their homes.
