Even after it's over, so much is usually lost in war. Both sides have lost in a way. So, how can anyone really win a war besides killing more "enemies?"

I was once asked by a friend who had a band to photograph them. There were four people in the band and one of them was black. I got my exposure set to what I thought would be right and took a number of colour shots of them.

By the way, this was in the days of film!

When I got the film developed, everything was fine apart from the black member of the band. There was no structure to his face. he just came out literally black.

I managed to get some detail back when I digitalised the photographs a couple of years later, but it would have been preferable to have a decent image on the negative to start with.

I suppose you're going to advise me to slightly overexpose to compensate but are there any other tricks I should know?

Also in black and white photography are you recommended to use a different filter for black people. I know green or yellow green is good for bringing detail out in light skinned people. Would a red filter be good for dark skinned people?

I'm trying to find a print of a painting. My father had a print of this painting laminated yet my dog managed to chew it up.
I've looked in ebay for this picture and over the web but I'm not having much luck.
Its of a male clown from the waist up with a flower in his hat/hand and he is very sad it has a green blue background and looks like very rushed/large brush strokes of oil paint.
Has anyone seen this picture and know of its title or possible have a print and would be willing to part with it (obviously I would pay for it!) My father had this print for 20 years and is very sad. So I want to make up for it. Thank you.

Do you break the spine and get stuck in or do you read it carefully so you keep it in good condition? I prefer to break the spine because it makes the book seem like it's good because you want to read it. If people lend me their books, I prefer them to be worn in because then its more likely to be a good read, whereas when people give me books that are in pristine condition, I worry whether the book is any good! Also are any of you those annoying people who read the last page of the book before you've read the whole book? Or even worse, do you ignore the prologue and just start reading from the first chapter because I know people who do that and it is so annoying!

Is that a reason to be attracted to someone?
If someone is not particularly accomplished, isn't it just 'normal' to be humble? Since they really don't have anything to be cocky about.
Doesn't humility only mean something if you're accomplished and also humble?

... but now I'm back with more pics that i'd like your opinion on.

(I think the ones on the other question are better, but I need opinions on all my photography, not just the better ones.)

I like to experiment with angles, so often I don't pay attention as much to the focusing... the focusing is off in a LOT of my pics.

I don't like these as much but....

I am a published author { Secret History of Paris } researching for a projected book on families in London or the provinces who were involved in the Revolution. If you have an ancestor either English or French ---- perhaps an emigre ---i would be interested in an interview as to how they escaped from France or why and related events. Were your ancestors involved in the Revolution ? Anything related.

do you look into the profile or review other questions and responses by a particular responder to get an indication of their experience or qualification? Or do you just pick an answer because it was what you wanted to hear in the first place?

I see time in the motion of all things, in the circling of the Moon round the Earth, and the Earth round the Sun, in the blossoming of flower, and then in their withering away, in the comings and goings of the days and nights of our live, in the seasons of our years, and in transitional states of all things natural. I see time stored away in the hearts as emotions of inspiration and gratitude about human conduct, or as feelings of sorrow and sadness.

But I see moments in time as golden mints raining down from silver clouds heavens above, the coins that if you do not seize in the instant they touch the ground would thaw and dissolve to become water, to be gone out of reach, forever.
