Is it correct that the Spanish government pay for the senior citizens to have a holiday at the seaside free of charge every year.?If so why cannot our government in the UK adopt the same policy?for our senior citizens.

You must be joking. They cannot look after the most vulnerable in our society never mind fit and frisky OAPs.

If they've got it - they can do what they want with it.
A MAJOR flaw in (at least) American civilization is our lack of respect for our elders. Without them, where would we be.
Approximately 1,300 WWII vets die EACH DAY here. They don't get a free vacation.

hold on a minute. where does that money come from? tax payers of course. personally I don't want to pay more tax so old biddies can have an extra holiday. go to most sea side towns and its full of old people playing bingo on their hols. I'd rather my money went to pay for something more worthwhile like health care or education.

I quite agree. What a good idea. I was soooooo grateful for the £10 Christmas bonus, however.

Because Spain has more warm beach resorts that are affordable. If the UK govt did it we would have to send them to Spain. The German govt sends their OAPs down to Spain, but they are richer.

The rumour is that if Cameron won the next election, winter heating allowance would be withdrawn in the UK, so there is no way he will stump up to send OAPs to beach resorts.

Because senior citizens are not majority voters and therefore the benefit to the government would be limited.
