Allegedly, April 1945. Purportedly he shot himself after swallowing a cyanide pill to assure death. His wife, Eva, died a few minutes earlier after taking a cyanide pill. Their bodies were supposedly removed to a bomb crater outside Hitler's bunker and burned.

I say allegedly because some believe that his suicide and subsequent burning of the bodies was staged (using other bodies) and Hitler actually escaped to South America. Solid proof of this action has never been provided and stories coming from the bunker about the purported events, have implied that because of the bunker's construction and Hitler's actions, "faking" the event would have been very difficult. I'd like to believe that he was cowardly enough to kill himself.

Allegedly?
Purportedly?
