You might find further study of history rewarding. The Mongol conquest, The American Revolution, and the defeat of Carthage are are three clear example of successful wars.

War is not pleasant, but can effect desired change. This has been clearly shown throughout history.

In a literal, political sense of course there are victors.

But in the more important sense of a nation's soul, something will always be lost even in victory.

Not only were thousands or millions of families destroyed, finances diverted from domestic use to military use, desire for revenge created, and personal liberty reduced, but the younger generation is taught by example that this is a world of fear and hatred.

Moreover, most war victories result in future vigilance and maintenance over land that in time will cause more suffering, more death, and an inevitable defeat.

No - there really aren't any true winners in a war and really no cause for celebration.

Killing enemies that have attacked you first and may continue to attack you if you do not fight back. This would be an example of a win no matter what you have lost. When you look at war you must look at the goal you are trying to accomplish. If you have accomplished this goal, you have won.

The true winners never fight they make others declare it.

Soldiers win wars also, sometimes they can win the fruits of rape and pillaging, or in modern day life experience and respect. Sometimes this outweighs their losses depending on the size of the reward to the size of the sacrifices.

if it's declared and you have an enemy, then you can win, which you know. but war really doesn't make sense when thinking about it beyond the profitable sense. it would but just as effective and less destructive to have the leaders play a poker game.

Even the victory is not going put an end to further wars. It sows seeds of hatred so that embers which remain hidden underneath blow up in the coming years at an appropriate moment. But, then human history shows clearly that we the human beings never learn any lesson from history. We go to war always, only the instruments of war and the characters change. Victors of today will be the vanquished to morrow. All is in the game.

War doesn't determine who is right;

Many medical advances happen during wars if it wasn't for wars my husband would have lost his leg to a fire at the age of 10 years old. All the techniques they used on his leg were learned over 2 different wars. Something like burns were never researched throughly necessity is the mother of invention.
