I want to learn the guitar. I have an electric guitar with no strings. I don't know what gauge strings to use, or how to tune it properly once I have it strung. Any suggestions?

For the past few years I have wanted to learn to play acoustic guitar. The problem is that I don't have the extra money to pay for lessons. Is there a program someone can recommend, as well as a "beginners" guitar to get me started? I've seen a lot of different advertisements for programs that claim to "teach" you how to play, but is it really sufficient to watch someone on a DVD and "learn" that way?
(FYI: I've never tried a string instrument before, but played trumpet, french horn and alto horn years ago! This will be strictly for hobby, as a I realize it's going to take quite a bit of practice to even make it sound decent ;-)

Aside from the personal perspective of what is good and bad.. Why do people generaly only tend to question the bad things that happen in life? example: it may seem sily if you heard someone say" damit why is my day going so well today?" vs "Damit i just don't understand when he he/she got cancer?"

I beleive that, if a principle does not hold true in the most extreme, absurdly exaggerated case, then it is not a sound principle to live by.

For example, I believe in freedom of speech. I beleive in it so strongly that I will defend the right to free expression of absolutely anyone. The KKK, NAMBLA, Jerry Falwell, I would defend Hitler himself's right to put his horrible messages out. I'd then do everythign in my power to counter them, but I would not tolerate -any- infringement of their rights. And anyone who would not step up to that plate does not deserve to enjoy their own freedom of speech, in my opinion.

I tend to think the same way about most political or religious ideals, my own or those espoused by others.

What would you call that sort of extremist philosophy?

And am I the only one who thinks like this?

my future mother-in-law collects these blue & white proceline animals figurines. there are a few that are signed diane or diana, but i cant find anything like them on-line. they are all pained in the same style, its kinda like a scalloped line. i think thats what its called. it almost looks like fish net, but prettier.

she had an elephant, it was probably about 5 inches tall, but it broke, so i was looking for something like that. she also has bears, a dog, a cat, fish, and i think a mouse, so anything thats animal theamed. i just cant find anything and i dont know what they are called so thats not helping.

It was given to us in English class in 1990. I have no idea when it was from. It might be Chinese but I am fairly certain was Japanese. NOT a Haiku. I am %99 sure it was a woman poet. It was a love poem that reminded me somehow of how I felt longing for someone who didn't know how i felt and the imagery involved a tree - maybe a cherry tree, cherry blossoms, maybe a a weeping willow tree? I don't know that is the picture I get in my head when I think of this poem. I've been searching for it ever since High School I wish I could remember more about it

Yesterday was on off day, lots of real work to do. Today, I am 2 pages into Chapter V. The editors have Chapters I-IV. It might suck. They are stunned into silence. The publicist in Minnesota likes it, but he's on the payroll...

"Although Islam, Christianity, and Judaism are three of the world’s most well known monotheistic religions, they have many similarities and differences when it comes to viewing sin and daily life morality, such as the belief in the original sin, evil actions, the love of god, and the lifestyles of Jewish, Christian, and Muslim people."
Thanks!

A found a 1902 US penny in my pocket thanks to another question here on Yahoo! Answers asking for the contents of my pockets.

I wonder who may have held this penny in the last 105 years? Was it used to by bubble gum in 1902? To buy a hot dog at a Yankees game? Who was the most famous person ever to hold it ? I wonder....

I want to do some volunteering and would like to find something where I could use my love of photography. One place I found so far was a local county park taking photos for brochures and website. I did a search for volunteer opportunities in my area but most were administrative skills, preparing or serving food, etc... One idea I had was offering to start some type of program. Any ideas on where to start looking for such volunteer positions?

We are going to Magic Kingdom tonight to see the holiday lights and the Spectromagic light parade. I want to take good pictures without carrying a lot of equipment. It will be night, and I will be taking shots of lights and moving lights as well as shots around the park. Here's what I have:

Nikon D80 with three lenses:
AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 DX SWM ED
AF Nikkor 50mm 1:1.4 D
AF-S Nikkor 18-200mm 1:3.5-5.6 DX SWM VR ED IF

The latter is my preferred lens for walking around, but I only have the built-in flash, and the long lens casts shadows. The 50mm is best for low light and motion, but I also plan to take close-up shots, which the stationary lens doesn't allow for. The first lens is OK for regular use, but it's slow in low light. However, I'll be taking photos of lights, so will this compensate for the low light surroundings?

Two questions: What lens should I use, and on what settings? I need help as soon as possible on this one!
