One of my favourite books is Donna Tartt's 'The Secret History'; a wonderful psychological thriller and very unique.

I've yet to find another book which equally good characterisation or such a haunting 'feel' to it - anyone have any suggestions?!

I love psychological thrillers, but have read lots of commercial books, so am now looking for something a bit more unusual...

Many thanks in advance for your replies.

I am wanting to get my mom a nice camera for her bird watching hobby. I am not too sure what to get, and I don't have a lot of money.

So if anyone has suggestions on what is a good affordable camera for bird watching, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

All my life I was taught that the Civil War was about freeing the slaves. Now college professors are saying the war was about the price of cotton, and the unwillingness of the Southern states to sell it at a reasonable price to the North. So is the Slavery thing just a nice benefit of the war, or was it the main purpose of the war? If cotton was the MAIN reason for the war, how do you feel about being lied to all these years in school?

Where do you think HE came from. Everyone I've talked to says there must be a god because the universe and everything in it (including life) couldnt create itself. Going on that theory God created everything but where did he come from?????

Please read this carefully and think before you answer.

Wanting something we do not have creates a lack of contentment, which is suffering. It creates distance from how we are at the moment of wanting and the thing we want; that which would bring us contentment and cease the wanting. If you make peace with that fact that you cannot have what you want, then you have peace instead of craving. Is there any situation in which wanting something is not causing suffering or discontentment in yourself and others? Think CAREFULLY before you answer please. :)

I have almost finished writing my first 450 page novel (there may even be more pages...)and about to start a second one. What it the best way to find an agent to see it it's worth publishing? It's very personal and some of it is harrowing but there is a light at the end of a sometimes very dark tunnel.

ok, I need a timeline. i have to know what year each pharaoh became the ruler, what their names were, how old they were, and when they died and the next pharaoh came to rule. Are there any books or websites you can suggest? or, if you have lots of time to spare, could you just type it all out for me? (kidding) Thanks guys.

A few months ago, I came across a book in an antique shop that I fell in love with but couldn't afford at the time. The title involved the word "fountain" and it was printed in the 1800's or perhaps the turn of the century. It was a fairy tail as I recall. The cover, as I remember was green with gold print. What was amazing about the book was the hand drawn illustrations within the pages. Does anyone have a clue as to what the full title of this book is?

I try hard, but I fail most of time?
People always say "Try your best" or something like that..I do try my best..like on test and such..however, I always fail..I mean, I don't have the best grade like some students in my class.

I want to be a doctor, and it seems as if the grades are killing me..competing with the pre-meds who have high GPAs is a pain. I really want to be a doctor though.

How come I can't get good grades like some people even though I try my best effort?

Any other advice?
