I need to know, Because I need to write an essay about it and when I research about it I get different answers everytime. Please help me, I have no other choice.

I am currently reading the book in class. My teacher says it's American Fiction.

It is historical fiction, although it tends to be a bit weak on very specific history. It's a classic tale of the 1930s, but doesn't really talk that much about it. It is also local color, because it is a tale of California's coastal valleys, the area of the USA where Steinbeck grew up and lived. It could also be classified as pure fiction because the characters and the ranch were all made up, but they were similar to every other farm in the coastal valleys of California.

It's American Classic Fiction. I read another poster's answer, they called it historical fiction, but I don't think that it is historical. fiction. For it to be deemed "historical" fiction, it has to be semi-biographical or based on true historical events. "OMaM" is completely fictional, so I would just say American Classic Fiction. It is also a Tragedy or Drama.
