It will only be unlivable for the human race (and a few other species who've had the bad luck to be too close to us biologically.) The Earth will recover, as it has ever since the big bang (and possibly before that if you listen to some people's theories.) Some other species or type of animal will take dominance. Hopefully they'd handle the responsibility better than we have.

I doubt whether there will be a *better* destination if earth becomes unlivable - may be venus, next if the planets are cooling down. may be moon if we screwed up the atmosphere with a nuclear blast or too much global warming thing. But any other place will require significant engineering or reengineering (like no water/air in moon, don't know much about venus, mars is too cold may be and farther from the sun, so less energy), which means we can deal with the crap in this planet itself.

Or, may be we'll be just floating in the space with out own little gardens in each thing that floats with huge solar cells. i definitely think that is a possibility.

Hopefully we will go the way of the dinosaurs, and give yet another class of life form a turn at evolution. And, hopefully, we won't have made Earth SO unlivable that no other species can survive. That's my biggest concern-- that we will have evolved ourselves right out of the food chain, all the while destroying everything else around us.

the timeline on a question like this is infinity. like the fellow before me, i agree, nature will always own the planet. but i will add, that I believe we also have a decent shot at life on mars and/or the moon, etc.......space. oh, and don't forget we haven't explored everyone on our own planet yet, like the depths of the oceans and underwater living. ...just my two cents.

Human`s will not be going any where, we will just become extinct, we are not that important anyway, nature is the only ruler of this planet.
