I learned this from Plato(Socrates) and who knows who else all the way back to nowhere when I was very young and it has worked for me so far so good.

THERE IS NO PROFIT WHERE NO PLEASURE IS TAKEN.

Enjoy!

I'm not sure if 'change my life' is really entirely appropriate, but Plato did a great deal for me, from the Republic to the Parable of the Cave. It's all about how we perceive things and perhaps what we see and perceive is not what's really there. His quote "The unexamined life is not worth living" is the most insightful and important quote I have ever read. Too many people just go along their merry ignorant way and when things go wrong, they have no clue why or why not. It's all about looking at ones own life and seeing it as it really is. Yes, Plato ... but almost no one reads him any more.

While he hasn't personally changed my life, undoubtedly Nietzsche has been one of the most influential philosophers, having a prolific impact throughout the 20th century. His writings on nihilism would ultimately lead to our modern crisis of moral relativism. To me it is unclear whether Nietzsche was truly influential in the sense of causing relativism, or rather simply the first philosopher to diagnose the growing societal tendency. Either way, definitely one of the most influential philosophers.

Aristotle taught me to never give up trying to understand life and people and things...

Because life is like His poetics and ethics... Sometimes you just have to repeat the end results of all your misunderstandings and mistakes in order to realize that everything as it was... made perfect sense all along.

Life requires a read through or two before you understand it... just like poetics.

But when you finally read something for the 10th time... and you get it. There is no greater feeling than having understood. Just like when you make the same mistake over and over again... Eventually you learn.
