I haven't read many books.

I finished the book "Jumper" by Steven Gould, i really like it.

I also like Michael Crichton.

I am looking for a book that has a science fiction aspect to it,
but not a completely far out fantasy world with aliens and stuff.

Famous authors or books are ok because I just started reading recently.

Any suggestions?

i have been trying to remember where i read somewhere that the reason why knives at a table setting are placed with the blade facing the plate rather than outward was something to do with wartime - like in the middle ages, if the knife was outward that meant the country, clan or whatever was at war with another country, clan or whatever. does anyone know where i can find out why the table settings are the way they are, especially in relation with the knife's blade facing the plate or away from the plate? thanks in advance

I have a vague idea of what Philosophy is all about but I'm just wondering if you could write what you think it is means and what it means to study it.

can anyone help me with this!

ok, I'm going to photograph at night, photographing "traffic trails" through b+w film photography.

I've been advised to use a "netral density filter".

I understand a filter as a little celophane square you use in the darkroom, but i get the impression that this "neutral density filter" is one I acutally put on the camera (somehow?!!?!)

can anyone explain this really simply to me?
what is a neutral density filter?
how do i attach one to my camera?
do you think i should use this filter for night photography, photographing traffic trails?

thankyou sooo much! i swear ill get the hang of photography one day!

does anyone know of some really interesting inventions of the time too?
were there already settlers (besides criminals 'n stuff) in north america then?
i'm doing this project about the renaissance where i have to pretend i'm a person from the renaissance -i can pick whatever time- and make a treasure box and i have to include a personal synopsis about myself and a diary with at least 8 entries, some sketches of my typical clothing and/or merchandise, and some either scientific or navigational objects of the time -no drawings or pics- and just some stuff from the time -so i can't be talking about the printing press in 1450 or before cause it wasn't invented yet-
the point is, i need as much info as possible.
