Is there any painting in canvas or paper older than the Mona Lisa?

I'm doing what most Lit. instructors detest and I'm asking for answers regarding authors who are still living or have been dead for less than 30 years.

Mine: I really enjoy Stephen and Tabitha King. I've been reading S. King since I was child and I'd sneak his books off my mother's dresser - read little bits at a time. I've noticed that as an adult when I think of his books or hear his name, it is much like hearing something of an old friend.

T. King is a beautiful writer and I wish she would get the publicity she deserves.

I also love Alice Sebold. She is the kind of writer I hope to become.

Right.... its really doing my head in, i've been searching the net for over an hour, but im getting nowhere!!! So if anyone knows the name of the book i'd be soooooo grateful!!

The general story is the book is written by this woman whose mum died, and she went to live with her dad and stepmum (who was nasty). This was in South Africa, something happened, and the woman, ended up living on the streets, then after a while i think she ended up back with her dad, somehow, over a period of time she managed to get enough money for the plane fare back to england, where she made a fresh start for herself. But she promised to return to South Africa, anyway she did, and now she helps young children!

Lol.... i know i know..... it hardly makes sense, buts thats what i can remember, the woman was on gmtv one morning, and her story was really moving, my mum said she wanted this book, but i cant find the title anywhere!!

Sorry for making it so long winded!!!!

Thanks :)

I like to act, I am 12 years old, I have gotten a Broadway callback, and I have been in numerous school and community theatre plays.

My friends don't think I have a shot at it, do you?
