Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. This book really gives some good lessons in life in a subtle manner. It's also really exciting.

"The Enigma", by John Fowles. Begins as a detective story and takes you somewhere you may have been before -- in those fleeting moments just before you descend into sleep.

Inkspell by Cornelia Funke is one of them. I can't remember the titles of the others now but if I do later then I will add them.
