Is there some kind of contest that we can enter so that we can design cards for super-famous card companies like Hallmark or American Greetings? There were these two teens who had a deal with Hallmark and made $13 million. How can we do this too? Trust me, our card designs are unbelievable! How can we make a deal with big-time card companies and make LOTS of money?

In America I hear people often mistake the seperation of church and state as the sepration of ethics and state. People actually fear the legislation of morals, and most claim it is something relative that shouldn't be enforced on everyone. Government's purpose should and has been in the past to enforce good ethical behavior on its subjects.

When I passed the Chancellor he arose, waved his hand at me, and I waved back at him. I think the writers showed bad taste in criticizing the man of the hour in Germany.

Teacher:
"Just because you get 100% on something doesn't mean your work is perfection. You just reached the expectations."

For the movie The Girl in the Cafe(HBO movie)
Girl: "I was in jail for hurting a man"
Man: "Why? What'd he do?"
Girl: "He hurt a child."
Man: "Was it your child?"
Girl: "Does it matter?"

Abraham Lincoln:
"And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."

I'm talking about absolutely certain predictions, with no chance of error, and as much detail as asked for. It seems to me that free-will would be meaningless, as all your choices would be predetermined. What do you think?

A criticism about my writing in my last question got me to thinking: Do you believe in simple writing?

Below is the criticism I refer to.

"Less is always more. Your writing is choppy sometimes and you overuse "that". Remember "that" is a pronoun, it should refer to something you previously mentioned.

Drop the "only" in "but please don't only tell me that...". While we're at it, drop the "that" in that sentence too. Too many syllables.

Always read out your writing. The best writing rolls off the tongue easily. It doesn't matter if it's verbose, it just has to have rhythm. It should sound like you're rolling and swaying. "

-guy_us_1900

With all due respect, the idea of simplifying writing and giving it rhythm troubles me. I'd rather be long winded, if that's what it is, and feel I am being complete in expressing my thoughts, than artistic. But I'm not a poet. I don't dispute the merits of his analysis, but I following it would leave me dissatisfied.

Let's suppose that someone makes a mistake because of his/her character.
And I don’t mean accidents, I mean mistakes like cheating, lying, stealing or anything else that was done due to his character traits.
Of course when the mistake is exposed most of the times people are sorry and they ask for forgiveness.
Do they deserve it?
Did they really regret or do they just say so?
Probably they will do the same thing in similar situation and have more experience in covering it up. In order to change things in your character you have to go through very strong experiences. True remorse is not easy and doesn’t become easier when you get away with no pain from your mistakes.
If they are forgiven what is the lesson that they take?
Everybody (including me) likes second chances.
But should we have it?
Does it make us better or it makes us worse?
