on one of the first pages is a page which will have at the top Copyright "year" by "author" and info on publisher etc. On that page will be a list of Nos between 1-10 e.g 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10. (not necessarily in order, however if all 10 numbers are there then its a 1st edition, so if numbers 1 and 2 are missing then it is a 3rd edition)

Usually it would say first edition first printing or first edition second printing, etc.
if not, usually it is if there are no other editions - printed. but the best thing is to research per book because some books have an original first edition first printing that looks exactly like a revised edition or a library edition just like Hemingway's Old Man and the Sea. So make sure you research each book.

1st editions are as great as 1st edition 1st print. most books will state if they are first editions. to find out about first prints the number run inside the book will read either 12345678910 or 10987654321. books can be printed for years and still be a first edition if a second edition is released it means mistakes have been corrected in the manuscript of the book. best known case is harry potter and the goblet of fire. first edition is by omnia publishers. second edition it went to bloomberg (its current publisher now)

I have a book which is first edition.
On the publication and information page, it says " 1st Edition".
Further reprints then have numbers, i.e. 2 -10, showing what edition it is.

The copyright page often has an explicit edition and printing history. Lacking that, look for a line of numbers across the bottom of the page. The lowest number is the number of that printing.

Well if it doesn't say anything about 2nd or 3rd edition, it's probably 1st edition.

Check the copyright page (in the front of the book). Look for the date of publication. If it says "reprinted on..." then you have a reprint.
