I'm lucky enough to have a history buff great-uncle who wrote a sort of book about one side of my family. He managed to trace part of my family back to records from Halifax Parish, Yorkshire, England in 1611. I have no idea how he managed to do this. It tells about attacks by Native Americans and stuff later in the colonies. How do people find this stuff out? I'm impressed.

I know hardly anything about my mother's side of the family other than the fact that my grandfather constantly tells me I'm somehow related to Judy Garland (her real name gives it away and I have older relatives who looked like her and it's scary.) They also tell me that they are mostly German.

Do you know a lot about your family? Do you care? If you do know, what's the earliest you can trace? Things like this really interest me.

I see questions all ovewr the internet asking why life sucks so bad. And I want to know the same thing. So I look around the internet, and everywhere I turn, there is a stupid answer from someone who has no idea what it is like to be miserable, often times saying "Life doesn't suck" or "Life is what you make it, so make it good" or some other bullcrap. I'm just wondering why life has to suck, and why all the non-miserable people keep giving us a hard time with their constant snnoyance using the afforementioned stupid answers.

I'm painting a BIG mural in my son's bedroom. The paint needs to be non-toxic since he's under 2 yrs old, and I'm pregnant. What kind of paint is best? Acrylic? Latex?
A couple of points:
1- I'm going to be taping some sections off with blue painter's tape, but I've had some bad luck with latex paint peeling away when I take the tape off.
2- I'd like this to be reasonably inexpensive.
Thanks!

I have a student who is having trouble reaching low notes on a brass instrument. I have tried to get the idea across of "dropping the jaw" but it doesn't seem to get through. Any suggestions?

when painting, (or drawing, or sculpting - or "doing art) - do you direct your work, or do you let the painting just "happen." do you strictly follow your inspiration - make an exact copy, or do you alter it? I'd really appreciate it if you would share your creative process! thanks!
