There isn't anything you can't draw. Start with small things you like from your room. Perhaps a stuffed animal or other toy. Drawing is half seeing so just look at sections of things and do a close up view. Don't let complicated things scare you. You can draw anything if you approach it the right way. You can use a grid or even draw it upside down. Try doing a cartoon you like but turn it upside down first. That way you won't think about what it is but look only at the lines and shapes.

There isn't anything in this world that is not detailed.
Whatever you decide to draw, you can leave out the tough details and simplify it to your liking.
You can draw a building, bu leave out the windows or the girders.
Draw your best friend, but if he/she is too detailed, just draw a profile-it's the most simple angle.
Don't be afraid, though, to expand your abilities. Grow.

you are real artist in sense that you have objective as you mention something plain or colourful but not detailed like building , so somewhere in your mind that you want certain things to be drawn that what real art is. so take paper or canvas board, pencil or colour or any medium will do to start with , draw rough line straight or zigzag line .slight below the centre ,then draw rough 2 or 3 triangles inter connecting each one based on first straight line drawn below centre now look what you have drawn base line as horizon then triangle as mountains so go on adding what you feel like trees, small houses, flowing river,
draw circle in between two triangle to represent as sun rise or sun set.
so you on track to be real artist is not that easy for first timer.hoping to see your art in well know gallery or auction houses, going, going .going and finally gone at hammer knocks at so and so price. is not that what art all about. good luck my friend

Here is an excellent exercise for an artist taught to me years ago by one of the greatest teachers I ever had. Just grab a pencil and piece of paper and start to doodle. Pay close attention to what appears by accident in the doodles! Then develop the accidental image as far as you can. This exercise is not to create a finished work but to develop a keen eye. Do it every day. It works!

What are you passionate about? What would you like to learn more about? The great thing about it is, you are the one that gets to decide. If it is art for the sake of art- you draw what you want, not what is popular or will make money. My next project will be drawing "Old West" characters. Just sounds like fun. Step outside of your little world and explore. You can draw whatever you allow yourself to!! HAVE FUN!

Still life......a bowl of fruit with a colured bottle beside or behind it on a plain tablecloth with a border round it. ie. orange, apple, banana and peach on a blue glass dish with a green bottle on a white cloth with a blue or green border. or a cat sitting on a window sill with the window open, curtains fluttering and some flowers in a vase with one or two petals on the window sill besides the cat.
