We read it a while ago in school. Basically..it was an older town..where being were being murdered by some unknown thing(we never got to finish it). I remember it was..in a collection of stories by this pretty well known older author.

In Joseph Heller's novel Catch-22, Doc Daneeka reminisces to Yossarian about his days in private practice, and he talks about a couple who once came to him because they were unable to conceive a child. Despite the couple's claims of regular sex, the doctor discovered upon examination that the wife was still a virgin. He used plastic models to demonstrate to the couple how to have sex the "correct" way, and a few days later the husband returned and punched him in the face.

WHY???

Two short stories that I read in high school pop to mind right away. They were both by Bret Harte. The first is called The Luck of Roaring Camp. A study of human nature with an unhappy ending. The next is The Outcasts of Poker Flat. A story that shows no matter how you live your life we all die in the end.
The other book that comes to mind is much more recent and I just finished reading the last book in the series. The book is called Hade's Daughter by Sara Douglass. Books never make me cry, but I was crying my eyes out the last fifty pages of the book. It is a fantasy book set in the time after the fall of Troy and brings togther greek mythology and the ancient beliefs of the british isles.
Let me know what your favorite books are...I need new books to read. I am really into fantasy and sci-fi.

I recently saw a book that seemed intreguing, but can't remember the title. I think it was about a father and a daughter who go sailing. They are doing something that has gone on for generations of the family(not sure what it is but they are doing it). They come across something I think and it's set on one of the Great Lakes I believe. Does anybody know what this book is?
