Jam bands still exist. Grateful Dead really don't tour so they can't REALLY be a jam band. I know a guy who saw Rat Dog and said they were cool.
Some pretty popular jam bands today include String Cheese Incident, Dave Matthews Band, etc

I listen to Grateful Dead, but that's to be expected since I live near San Francisco and go to the same high school that Jerry Garcia went to, so I just grew up with it.
I also listen to Cream, Deep Purple, Frank Zappa, Santana, The Doors, and the Allman Brothers. I was tuned onto them from my Dad when I was little and he gave me all of his vinyl.

i listen to Greatful Dead, my dad got me to, and they're awsome. i also listen to other classic rock, like mettalica, AC/DC, etc.
