I'm checking out an audition for a filmed production, and the ad says that since it's low-budget, all it can offer is 'copy, credit, and meals'. It's not like I'm seriously hoping for this role. I'm really just auditioning for the novelty of acting on camera - it's all just for play. Still, I'm curious to know what that phrase means, and I'm sure one of you brilliantly savvy Yahooligans knows the answer. ;)

I know there is an objection to 'cogito ergo sum' (I think, therefore I am), that has to do with only being able to be sure that "There is thinking going on" and not being sure about the "I"....

I can't remember the name of this objection, I know it bears the name of the person who came up with it, and i think it begins with an L.

any elaboration on the objection is welcomed as well

I love medical trillers and courtroom drama. But I only read Robin Cook and John Grisham who writes under those genres. Any others to suggest?

Which character do you have the most sympathy for:

1. Lennie: because he is mentally slow but has a big heart and doesn't intend to cause harm

2. George: because he has accepted the burden of looking after Lennie and tries to keep him out of trouble (even though secretly he needs Lennie just as much as Lennie needs him)

3. Croooks: because of the racial segregation and inferiority amongst the white workers at the ranch

4. Candy: because he's old and 'useless' and doesn't feel particularly useful

5. Curley's Wife: because she appears to be rather lonely and also in an unhappy marriage, this is why she is always trying to talk to the workers.

I love this book very much and I just wondered which character you felt the most sympathy for as they all seem to have a disadvantage in various different ways.

About 2wks ago I moved 1000mi to provoke personal growth, i was to stay with my long time friend. After staying with her for a week she changed her mind and kicked me out. One of her friends, I met the day prior, is letting me stay with him. A semi-romantic relationship has developed, but neither of us have closure from previous relationship. I got a job the day after I came to stay with him and have been working there for a week. It wasn't a planned move so a came with no clothes or money; my dog is isn't here (i miss her) along with my family and comfort zone. I want to stay, but by me taking away everything I knew; I have become really insecure (all aspects): not knowing or even having anyone to trust leaves me questioning my own judgement. Still, here, so I haven't lost hope, but I need to know if my sticking it out is the right thing. Or ANY good advice, by the way, I am 20 years old, no kids, and I have never been married.
