My son is 19 years old - has a GED. Does nothing. No job, no drivers license. Has thought about the Army - but now he doesn't know what he wants. I'm at my witts end ... what should I do - I told him either he gets a job (which he won't) or join the Army (which he might - but I think he's scared) or get out of my house by August 31st. He's never had a father figure - no true friends - the "friends" he has just get him in trouble - he's a very good looking nice kid - I can tell he's just lonely and wants accepted and he doesn't care if he has to smoke pot to be friends or drink to be friends - or whatever ... what should I do? Do you think the Army would be a good thing for him - I think he's scared he'll be lonely and have no friends. HELP !

Is the IRAQ war a repeat of the Soviet War in Afghanistan?

The Soviet war in Afghanistan was a nine-year conflict involving Soviet forces supporting Afghanistan's Marxist People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) government against the largely Islamic fundamentalist Mujahideen insurgents that were fighting to overthrow Soviet rule. The Soviet Union supported the government while the rebels found support from a variety of sources including the United States, Pakistan and other Muslim nations in the context of the Cold War. This conflict was concurrent to the 1979 Iranian Revolution and the Iran-Iraq War.

The initial Soviet deployment of the 40th Army in Afghanistan began on December 25, 1979. The final troop withdrawal began on May 15, 1988, and ended on February 15, 1989.

I'm no scientist, but because Peru had an earthquake, would that put more pressure on the fault lines north, up the coast and eventually cause major earthquakes on the coast of California? Didn't California have a small earthquake just recently and wasn't there predictions of a major earthquake on the San Andreas Fault line made on CNN just a few days ago? Shouldn't people be made more aware of this possibility?

I assume most people who have tattoos have gotten this "reason" for not getting a tattoo before:
"just think how saggy, blurry, faded, wrinkly, nasty it will look when you're 80"
how is this a "valid" argument against someone getting a tattoo?!? I am getting a tattoo now, in the prime of my life (i'm 23 by the way) because it has deep meaning to me and is something that I love. I absolutely adore all of my tats and planned them out at least a year in advance to make sure I wanted them. I have heard from multiple people the line about how bad they will look when I'm old. But think about this, how many 80 year olds do you know who are very concerned with their appearance? My tattoos are a part of me and will age with me, as my beauty and youth fade, so will my tattoos. I will wrinkle and sag, and so will they. This doesn't mean that they will have any less meaning for me or not bring up the same feelings that they do now. I agree if you're some trendy idiot that got a "sexy"...

I don't understand the hate. I'm not a militant veg. but people stick up their noses at me when I tell them I don't eat meat. I'm not criticizing anyone's lifestyle choice. I just don't like meat - the idea of it or the taste. A lot of people have food preferences. For example: I know a person who won't eat mushrooms because the idea of eating a fungus turns her stomach. Its the same thing with meat for me.

Heres my story, thank you to everyone who answered!
I run away from home all the time.
Because I'm A 14 year old girl and the middle child in my family. I am also the only girl out of the 3.
My older brother tries to sexually abuse me and beat me, he sometimes does but luckily has never sexually abused me.
And my younger brother treats me like dirt because I'm a girl.
I'm incredibly thin and weak because I get very little food+drink compared to my brothers and what food I do get they often steal.
Because I'm the middle child my parents neglect me. I get £5 pocket money a week and my brothers get £20 each.
Why my parents say? Because I'm a girl and because of that ille just spend it on something useless.
Currently I have being sleeping rough in Durham busking for food money with my bass guitar.
If I don't sleep rough I at my boyfriends because I feel he and his family treat me great!

But now I'm safe and am going into the care home tomorrow.
YAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!

I would like some input on whether someone should do the Air Force or the Navy. Just opinions and thoughts, especially from military members, would be great! Thanks.

She lived on her own for yrs and then moved to another state to get her life together and since then, has been staying at her parents house. She's been there 7 yrs!!!!

What is wrong with her? She has a degree, is relatively attractive (not fat, nice face), has an ok job. She just seems depressed to me but won't let me help her. What is wrong with her and should I keep trying to help her?

I have spoken to my parents on the matter already, but my mother thinks it is the best house for our family. It is about 10 miles away from my school which I moved to two semesters ago. (I really don't want to move schools again). This means getting to school would involve a walk to a station, then a train to a main station, a 20minute train journey then a 30min walk to school.
I currently live within 20mins walk of my school. I really don't want to move - the house is ugly, the garden is small & my parents don't think they can afford to decorate it nicely & change the (really old-fashioned) kitchen.

The reason for the move is my father having a stroke last September, and he cannot work due to this. He can talk, drive, walk & write so is making good progress but is a pessimist.

My mum is trying to encourage him to move - he has lived within 10 minutes drive of my elderly grandmother since he was a baby.

HELP!
