as christians there is a plan for our life right? so why do we pray for things? why should we ask for things when it will change anyway? If things are already set up why ask for things to happen

My father's relatives are all modern Orthodox and his mother was the first to break the chain. He was raised conservative. My mother was raised reformed and I was raised reformed as well, getting bat mitzvaed but not keeping Kosher or Shabbas.

I have been working at an Modern Orthodox camp (the counslers are, not the campers). THey're so cool and it seems like the men and the women have so much more respect for one another.

It's hard to convert in my household, though I'm joining a new Orthodox temple.

I want to convert once I'm living on my own in college. Any suggestions or rules I should learn? How do I convert and will I be accepted? Anybody have the same experience?

The smart ones know what conservatism stands for today and what it stood for in the past and just deal with it.

The dumb ones think it was pro-diversity liberals who were the slave owners and traditional conservatives who freed the slaves because they assume the Republican Party was always conservative and southern. They confuse party with ideology.

Let me ask you this: You guys claim to be for state rights but then proudly claim Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, and the northeastern Republicans who voted for the 1964 Civil Rights Act of 1964.

HOWEVER, these guys used the power of the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT to fix problems. How can you logically claim to be for state rights, but support radical, progressive, and liberal Republicans like Lincoln, Roosevelt, and Rockeller?

Ive already asked this question but want to clarify: My wedding colors are white and black with red accents. I am having a 3 tier fountain wedding cake with the two staircases down the sides to two smaller, 2 tier cakes. I have a white cake toppers (calla lillies inside a heart for the smaller cake and a white dancing couple for the larger cake). I don't want a complete black cake I'm worried itll be too dark or look gothic. So I thought a white cake but have a black lace design on it (so it looks like black lace is wrapped around the cake a little white will show but itll be mostly black), then some red flowers. (there will also be a ring of flowers around the cake.
Opinions or ideas please.
Clarification: BLack will b fondant, it doesnt stain, I want more black than white because my cake toppers r solid white. and I know it is a difficult design with the lace and everything, but a professional is doing my cake. (and its not solid black)

What do you think? Should radio talk shows give equal time to both sides of an issue?

I know this would wreak havoc on Rush Limbaugh. I'm sure there are others as well, so give me what your thoughts are on this issue.

The White House is against the fairness doctrine. Anytime the White House is against something, it makes me wonder.

I lived in NYC all my life. But even as a teenager I wanted to live in another state. I lived in NJ for 15 yrs. & loved it but came back to NY bcz I found a really nice apt & lived there for 7 yrs, moved out due to ridiculous rent increases & havent been able to find a nice reasonable place to live since 2001. I'm finding myself hating alot about NY, I dont go out to socialize in NY bcz I get aggravated with the trains, buses and crowds of people everywhere, also the noise & other things & I'm constantly thinking about leaving NY to go south but everything I know & love is here in NY. But I cant stop thinking about the south & how nice it is out there. Apts are quieter & cleaner, rents more reasonable & I can have a dog. I'd also like to live away from my family to start a new life on my own. NY is a great city but I've been here all my life & I'm not feeling it so much here anymore.

Does this mean its time for me to make a change? Or am I just being miserable?

In other words,

There was an old cowhand who owned a small ranch in Montana. The Montana Wage and Hour Department claimed he was not paying proper wages to his help and sent an agent out to interview him. "I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them," demanded the agent.
"Well," replied the rancher, "There's my ranch hand who's been with me for 3 years. I pay him $600 a week plus free room and board..
The cook has been here for 18 months, and I pay her $500 a week plus free room and board.
Then there's the half-wit who works about 18 hours every day
and does about 90% of all the work around here. He makes about $10 per week, pays his own room and board and I buy him a bottle of bourbon every Saturday night."
"That's the guy I want to talk to, the half-wit," says the agent. "That would be me," replied the rancher.
