I dont think they can, but I dont think its that big of a deal, or that hard to get around it, just stuff it in your bag before the first tee, and take it out in the first fairway, and you shuold be fine.

Probably nothing, since most public golf courses sell beer (most also don't allow coolers but I know some guys that put their beer in a bag of ice and carry it around that way). The one I go to even has a girl driving around on a cart selling beer (and other consumables like water and M&M's) to the golfers... of course if you are underage then you are still restricted by the laws of the land.... meaning that if you are under 21 then you can be prosecuted for possesion and lose your license...

I've been to public golf courses which did not object to players bringing their own drinks to the course, even though they sold alcohol.

However, most places take the position that their insurance will not protect them if you are getting drunk with your own alcohol on the course, so they ban outside alcohol (the relationship between their general liability and dram shop gets screwed up when they let in outside alcohol). And they have a significant portion of their budget tied to concessions sales, including beer. So I wouldn't expect to be able to bring in outside beer.

And part of this might depend upon the local liquor license regulations; some licenses might outright ban bringing in outside liquor. This is why some restaurants without liquor licenses will allow you to bring in wine, and some won't...

The short answer is yes, they can regulate that if they choose.

There are courses that make exceptions. I used to play at a course that did not carry my particular beer of choice and because I was the only person who drinks it that played there, they saw no merit in adding it to their menu. They would allow me to bring my own. Most of the time, if you are a good, regular customer, they won't do anything to piss you off and cause you to go elsewhere.

Any course can regulate what you bring on to the course. Even though it's a "public" course, it still is private property. If you meant a "municipal" course (run by a city, county or state), then the answer is probably still the same.

Most courses won't even let you bring non-alcoholic beverages.

In most states it is illegal to possess your own private alcohol at any business that has its own liquor/beer license. Not only does the businesses insurance not protect anyone who was drinking if you were to be hurt or damage property, but if something happens outside of the course (Car accident exc.) the person who was authorized to sell alcoholic beverages at the business will be held responsible for serving that individual regardless if that person served any alcohol at all. Alot of places are very strict about these types of things. In wisconsin §.125.32(6) gives all the detailed information.

If you cannot afford to purchase from the business they dont golf...You can and bottles adds up which means more garbage, cleaning ect. You dont bring you own booze to a bar or a steak to a restaurant.

Yes, they can regulate you. They probably have a contract with the pro shop operator or a food vendor allowing them to make rules.
