I use my intelligence to evaluate what I've heard somewhere else. If I understand it and agree with it then it becomes my knowledge to pass on here. It isn't a case of simply repeating what I've heard.
If I couldn't give an answer based on something I'd heard or read somewhere I'd say nothing!

I have never repeated an answer directly taken from someone else, but if I do reference I provide a source. Most of my answers (in the religion & spirituality section) are derived from my course work and personal study to get my religion degree. Some of my answers are from my personal experience as well. The answers I provide are often historical in nature, and since I am not thousands of years old, I need to rely on old resources and modern scholars.

Beautiful question, this. I hope most of us here haven't "...heard it somewhere else", but have thought it out. It isn't enough to have learned anything, but of the greatest importance that it is understood.
It's Ideas I'm talking about. We have them all the time, and good ones too. I so much want to hear what you all are thinking, and not so much what you have read or heard.

personal revelation. The Gospel of John tells us that if we love Jesus and keep his commands he will REVEAL himself to us. This is very true. I am assuming you are talking about outside of Bible Books? Also as Catholics we must trust what Jesus said when he told Peter that the gates of Hell would not prevail over his Church. There have been remarkable discoveries in the area of science that demands an answer in the way of what is right for society that did not exist in the Bible days---Embryonic Stem Cell Research, Cloning and other things that pertain to modern times that we depend on the Pope for our direction as far as belief goes. The Holy Spirit will not lead him astray as long as he is a duly and legitimately elected Pope.

If I couldn't repeat what I'd heard, I'd have to be silent, wouldn't I? Or nonsensical. It's your pick.
