TORONTO (Reuters) - Twenty-eight percent of Canadians admit knowingly buying counterfeit goods such as knockoff clothes, watches, purses and movies, according to a survey released on Tuesday.


The survey, conducted by polling firm and also found that 12 percent of respondents found out later that a product they bought was a knockoff.

"The combined figure is slightly more than triple the proportion found in the United States by (polling firm) Gallup," the CACN said in a statement. "There, just 13 percent of Americans purchased, copied or downloaded imitation or counterfeit products."

The CACN represents companies and industry associations fighting product counterfeiting and copyright piracy in Canada and abroad. Its members include Adidas, Microsoft Canada, Nike and the Canadian Recording Industry Association.

The survey found that when they are informed that proceeds from the knockoff market go to organized crime, 86 percent of respondents said they would be less likely to buy counterfeit products.

"If there is a silver lining here, it is the evidence that Canadians will refrain from buying counterfeit goods when they know about the involvement of organized crime," Lorne Lipkus, chairman of the CACN's education and training committee, said in a statement.

"This tells us that, if we pass the right laws, empower our police forces, and educate our citizens, then we can solve this problem."www.eluxurybay.com

The survey found that 70 percent of respondents favor heavy fines as a counterfeiting deterrent, while 43 percent favor jail time and 4 percent would "leave things as they are."

The online poll surveyed 2,034 households between February 16 and February 20 and has an estimated sampling error of plus or minus 2.2 percent in 19 out of 25 cases.

It's taboo and frowned upon socilogically, morally, religiously, and in many places, legally, but I get the feeling, based on the membership levels of websites and chat groups, that this is a highly practiced phenomenon, especially between cousins and siblings. The surprising thing is how much of it seems to be mutual, as in not forced upon one party or another. New studies show we have biological blocks that keep us from finding relatives sexually attractive. So my question is, how widespread is this, really? Is it really a serious problem, or just a few freaks?

Ok I have to write a paper about healthcare barriers for lesbians. Any lesbians out there please answer this I need ideas. From research that I did online I have gotten that many lesbians are embarrased to ask about female condoms or maybe the health care provider is embarrased to talk about ways to prevent STIs with lesbians because they do not know how they have sex. My grandma lost her husband about two years ago and here lately she has gotten abusive, I geuss it was always there but I didn't know about it. My grandpa protected me from it but now that he is gone its like she is a completely different person. To tell you the truth I absolutely hater now. She hasn't gotten his headstone and its as if I'm a slave to her instead of her grandchild. I'm 17 and I'm about to graduate within the next few months but I don't know if I can handle it that long and I really need someones advice on how to handle her so that I don't end up commiting suicide because of the way treats me. Please you guys this is really really important and I need help, I swear she is a psycho and I'm afraid that if I don't do something soon she might try to kill me or have something done to me that can never be undone. I have tried catching it in a live trap, and the trap is just too small and I have not found a bigger one. The coon is just too long for the door to close behind him. This is one of the biggest coons I have ever seen! He is getting in thru a hole in the soffits and facia, I cover the hole and he tears right back in. Actually I think it is a she and she may be pregnant, and looking for a place to have her babies. It is warm up there, if I were her, thats where I would go.. However, I do not want them in my house! I heard that soaking meat in some antifreeze helps, but can't find that info on the net. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
