Well, this is a complicated question for you. You know you shouldn't be drinking too much caffeine. Therefore, decaf teas and coffee would be your best option, right? Wrong! Decaf beverages are manufactured using dubious methods - like bleaching the coffee beans over and over again until all the caffeine is leached from them. Yuck.

But serisously, you should be limiting your caffeine intake right now.

Medical research has shown that up to 4 cups of black coffee a day are very beneficial in helping to lower the risk of Type 2 diabetes. Caffeine has also been shown to help improve concentration and even reduce the risk of Alzheimer's ever so slightly.

Back away from the artificial sweeteners. Sweeteners are chemicals, and therefore do more harm than good. Aspartame causes migraines, saccharine has been linked to cancer. A couple of teaspoons of sugar in your coffee can actually quell sugar cravings later on.

Black tea is good for you as well, but can contain oil of bergamot which, in large quantities over a long period of time, can actually cause liver cancer. No thanks.

Green tea, conversely, is a natural detoxifier and internal cleanser. It also contains ingredients which can help prevent cancer. I used to live down the street from an oncologist who highly recommended drinking copious amounts of green tea, and often. Green tea is also low in caffeine.

That being said, bagged teas basically contain the dust off the tea factory floor. Always use loose tea leaves and a steeper. It's really not that much more expensive, and there is less packaging. Less packaging = less waste.

To sum it up:

Coffee: 8 oz contains approx. 120 mg of caffeine. A touch of sugar, okay. Skip the milk or cream (cow's milk is laced with pus anyway). Silk soy beverages make a delicious non-dairy alternative to coffee creamer anyway.

Black tea: 8 oz contains approx. 90 mg of caffeine, or the same as one can of cola (yuck, cola bad). Sweeten with sugar or honey. Limit quantity throughout the day.

Green tea: 8 oz contains approx. 30 mg of caffeine. No sugar or creamer required. Add a slice of fresh lemon to help further purify your body. Also, boil the kettle and wait ten minutes before pouring the water over. If the water is too hot, it will cause the green tea leaves to release bitter components.

Start your morning with a cup of hot water and one or two slices of fresh lemon in it. This cleans out your body and helps you to burn fat more efficiently throughout the rest of the day.

Cheers!
