China is the world's oldest continuous civilization, in existence for more than four thousand years. In its golden age it discovered matches 700 years before Westerners, invented gunpowder, firearms, rockets, and grenades, developed the first paper from the bark of trees and the first form of wood block printing, sent ships to explore as far as South Africa...And the list goes on and on. Now it's the world's largest consumer with the world's largest military (2 million), the first non-Western nuclear power, and the government wants to turn 100 universities into world class research centers, and the majority opinion is that it will be a superpower within our own lifetimes...What makes the Chinese so ahead of everyone else?
