The answer that Satan had free-will and chose to rebel against God sounds right at first, but why would an omnipotent God not just destroy him immediately when he re rebelled? God must have wanted a fight since he created Satan knowing that he would one day rebel against Him. In order for evil to ever exist, I would think that evil and good (God and Satan) would both have to be eternal since one would never create the other (unless they wanted a fight).
For those who will still say that God created Satan, why would he ever introduce His most beloved creation (us) to evil? If it was to give us a choice, is the choice to CHOOSE evil or good (as it should be) or to choose to BELIEVE in Him or not. If the answer is to believe in Him or not, why ever create beings who are not smart enough to be able to understand God or Satan, then ask them to choose?
I know this is a loaded question, but it will hopefully weed out all the simple-minded answers.
