Some countries suffer because they are just not ready for democracy... In some cases a benevolent dictator would be better with a democracy to come later

why do charities like cancer research, and r.s.p.c.a, and many other send you letters in the post every week asking for you to donate? Then put a free pen in with the letter?

ok even if these pens they send out cost them 1p,
and they send out a few million letters, with a pen in each letter,
could not that 1p they pay for those pens be used for the charity instead?

ok even if the pen company are giving them the pens free would it not be better to say just give us the 1p for each pen instead?

what do u think?

i give to charity because i want to not because i get a free pen?

I've had them for a number of years, and have recently "re-discovered" them. They're in good condition, but slightly worn from use. How would I make them look new again? Should they be oiled? Is there some kind of finish that can be applied?

Reaching the end of a job interview, the Human Resources person asked a young engineer fresh out of MIT, "What starting salary were you looking for?"

The engineer replied, "In the neighborhood of $125,000 a year, depending on the benefits package."

The interviewer said, "Well, what would you say to a package of 5 weeks vacation, 14 paid holidays, full medical and dental, company-matching retirement fund to 50% of salary, and a company car leased every 2 years - say, a red Corvette?"

The engineer sat up straight and said, "Wow! Are you kidding?"

The interviewer replied, "Well yeah, but you started it."
