America does not insist on Democracy but presents it as the best alternative to non Democratic countries. Your presentation and theory is a reasonable alternative...but my concern is the use of a benevolent dictator. Look for yourself in any dictionary the definition of a dictator.

Don't get me wrong, there are well run counties in the world that are not democracies. I have been to a few of these countries. But as for me I love visiting other countries and their people by I feel safest when I have my feet on USA soil.

A dictator may be benevolent when he takes the job, but he won't stay that way. People with power want to keep that power, and will do whatever is necessary. People complain about President Bush, but there will be another election, and if they want change, they can get it with votes. I don't think any dictator would be up to the job of preparing his people to work itself into democracy. If they want it bad enough, they will suffer as necessary to get and and will not complain.

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly.

One day a small opening appeared, he sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no farther.

Then the man decided to help the butterfly, so he took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon.

The butterfly then emerged easily.

But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings.

It never was able to fly.

What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were God's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.

Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If God allowed us to go through our life without any obstacles, it would cripple us.

We would not be as strong as what we could have been.

And we could never fly.

What if we had been invaded and forced to accept another country's style of government when we were in our infancy and making many mistakes (ie. slavery, our treatment of Indians)? Hm, yeah, thought so.

Yeah, right, and how many benevolent dicators do you know ?

They are all there to line their own pockets and feather their own nests at the expense of their people. The same is true of the leaders of democracies, but in democracies the people are not so revolting.

If we didn't have democracy, we wouldn't be America. And, democracy has worked for us, for a very long time. It is now being threatened by the recklessness, greed, and piety of this Administration. However, we the people can, and must, choose to maintain our freedoms! Vote them OUT!
(for those who disagree - watch your backsides; there won't be much left, without dramatic change.)

We are just like the British a hundred years ago, but with more toys. We think if it's good enough for us, it's good enough for everyone. Maybe in a western culture, but I agree with you. We should keep our noses out of other countries' business. It's all about oil.

This country is being taken over without a shot. Brush up on your Spanish. Keep sending your tax dollars over to China's army's. Destroy the middle class. Soon we will have trickle up economics and when it hits the rich no one will care.

I was just about disagree with you, but so many people (including me) think it would be better to just let Sadaam go back to Iraq and continue his reign of terror. I would whip those people back into shape and would save us a whole lot of money.
