I read in a book last year that in the Russian language, a coward is sometimes called a 'wet chicken'. Is this true?

How do you say this in Russian (Cyrillic)?

Is this a phrase that is used by people in Russia, or is it just something everyone knows but don't really use?

Thanks!

Tracy.

Apparently gone are the days when American soldiers were forced to halt their pursuit of insurgents -- and to cease returning fire -- when the latter fled into mosques which doubled as safe houses and arms caches. This change in ROE could not have come soon enough.

All four aspects of the President's new plan seem, at this early stage, to be working well, and the difference is already being seen and felt by the people of Baghdad. As Mohammed wrote days ago:

"The best part…remains the return of displaced families to their homes; the latest count for this shows that more than 600 families have returned so far.

"More occupied mosques are also being returned to their original keepers, and earlier today Sunni and Shia worshippers gathered to hold joint prayers in several places in Baghdad."

The President's new strategy has thus far produced results which can only be viewed as good

I am supposed to help plan a trip from the easternmost edge of Russia all the way across to the European Russia. I'm starting ini the city of Magadan and ending in Penza. I cannot travel by sea or air, but rivers are allowed. What should I take with me? Money? Clothing? What else?

Thx. ;)

I need help from Russian friends who are familar with Russian folk songs.

That song Otchi tchornye (Dark Eyes) is described in various (and somewhat contradictory) ways in various internet sites.

Some argue that it is a gypsy song whereas some other argue that song was composed by an Ukranian who fell in love with a Russian girl in Moscow (mid 19th century or something)

Any info you can provide on the historical background of that song is highly appreciated.. Thanks in advance. Spasiva

As in when are there less tourists, so one can get a feel for what the Russian life is like minus all the annoying tourists? I am particularly interested in visiting St. Petersburg, Minsk,& Vladivostok. Perhaps Moscow, but I've heard people are not as pleasant there. Hopefully, I could time it so to as meet Valery Gergiev, that would be pretty neat! All answers are welcomed and thanks for your time!

I might be moving to Russia for work, and wanted to know if anyone had some tips about living there as an expat? I've visited there before, and have spent extended periods in most of the Central & Eastern European countries, but "living" is always different to "visiting" a city - particularly one so different. Any idea about costs and fun stuff to do would be a great help!

And the other day they threatend America back to the cold war, and made it clear that Russia and Iran are friends, and now Russia wants to help all the other Arab nations make nuclear energy. I believe the way things are going it may be within 10-15 years that Russia attack America with China. The middle east will be at boiling point with Israel being bombed by Iran, Russia, Turkey etc. I believe the antichrist will arise out of of all the caos. And within 10-15 years there will be lots of natural disasters and famines will be huge around the world, and the threat of tsunamis will probablly increase. If this is the case I would not be suprised if Jesus returned within 40 years. Would you? I know we do not know the day or hour, but Jesus said we will know the seasons. God will not let this world go on for much longer as it is too sinful enough, and he hates looking at sin. Anyway how long do you believe Russia and China will take to Bomb America? Do you believe it will be before or

I am tracing my roots. I am back to my great, great, great, great grandfather. An 1860 census says he was born in W Blissburg Russia. I can't find anything on this city, other than it's apparently the name of a comic book city. Which does not help me. :) Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks much!
