The area which the Kremlin covers is significantly larger, and the White House in Moscow (the seat of Russian government) is also significantly larger than the White house in Washington D.C.. Bottom line in Russia is that almost everything is on a grand scale. Their traffic jams being another case in point ..

Of course, Kremlin is bigger. It's not an isolated building but a kind of a castle district. Centuries ago it was a fortified heart of Moscow where a lot of things were located: palace of the Grand Prince (later Tsar), houses of boyars (traditional Russian aristocracy) and common people, monasteries and churches, etc. Now it is an official residence of the Russian president. There are a several buildings which belongs to the President's Administration. Also there are few old cathedrals, museums, a nice garden, and a so called Palace of Congresses. The latter is ugly big building erected in 60s to host Congresses of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and other big official events.

The White House includes: 6 stories and 55,000 ft² (5,100 m²) of floor space, 132 rooms and 35 bathrooms, 412 doors, 147 windows, 8 fireplaces, 8 staircases, 3 elevators, 5 full-time chefs, 5,000 visitors a day, a tennis court, bowling alley, movie theater, jogging track, swimming pool, and putting green.


Existing Kremlin walls and towers were built by Italian masters over the years from 1485 to 1495. The irregular triangle of the Kremlin wall encloses an area of 275,000 square meters (68 acres). Its overall length is 2235 meters (2444 yards), but the height ranges from 5 to 19 metres, depending on the terrain. The wall's thickness is between 3.5 and 6.5 meters.
