I have 37 Slovakians working for me this summer. They range in age from 23 to 41 and they are all from Bratislava or its suburbs. They are getting paid $10 per hour, which evidently is a large sum for Slovakia.

My question is that not one of them does a half a days work by american standards. Is eastern Europe just really lax in it's work ethic? I find them sleeping in the bathrooms, stealing things from the kitchen, ignoring or being outright rude to our customers.

It has been a nightmare but I need employees. Is the problem the Slovakian Government agency just sent me a bunch slackers or do I need to search out workers from a different country?

Does anyone have experience with J1 workers from places other than lazy bum land, I mean Slovakia.

I keep seeing adverts on the Travel Channel for property in Romania and it looks great. But most websites make it sound like a difficult country to get around because of limited or poor transportation. I just want to go for a week to check it out. Where should I go and how do I get around?

Thinking of heading there the first week in October.
Anyone who has links to a B&B or cheap apartments,
anyone been there before, could recommend a place,
or anyone currently living there who knows waht the place is all about.

Weather 1st week in October?
Nightlife?

In a few hours, I am driving to Thessaloniki, from Athens! No special plans! Should I visit Xanthi to attend the Old City Festival? Will Thessaloniki and Halkidiki be enough?
Enjoy every moment, each one is unique and gone!

This is only for those that did! Thank you so much, all my Virtual friends, for all your best wishes! Sorry, that I did not get to choose the Best Answer myself, but I was away on holiday, at the time. Don't you think, we should be able to extend the expiry date for longer, if necessary?
Would you like to know how I got on?
I had a great holiday - I love Turkey! No upset tummy! Met some new friends and saw a large Sea Turtle in the river (partly sea water) eating crab from a fisherman. The land is quite wild in places and there is lots of wildlife.
