Bonjour! A group of us are driving from New York to Montreal for NYE weekend. What are the places we should check out? And more importantly, where should we party on New Year's Eve? (FYI- we are a group of 24/ 25 year olds)

I'm going with my family to Canada on vacations, they gave me the choice to go to either Montreal or Quebec (I think we're going to both, but in one of them we'll only spend one night while in the other one we would spend 3 days or so) and I would like to know, which one do you recommend?
I'm 18 years old and I have two younger sisters (13), so which place has more things to offer?

We are thinking to spend a week to 10 days in Canada next September. Generally speaking, how long does it take to visit one city (Toronto or Montreal)? Which city is better? I will be visiting Montreal for the first time this month and my French is very limited (I took Spanish to fulfill my language requirement in high school and I don't have any experience speaking French).

When I go to restaurants, shops, my hotel, the train station, etc., would it be more polite and respectful if I spoke in French (using the basic expressions that I have recently learned) or English? I have read online that many locals will "switch over" to English, but I've also read that it may be considered rude to speak English (initially) and assume that the person with whom I'm conversing knows (and wishes to speak in) English. What do you think would be best?
