(I am from Montreal, and been to Paris few times and planning for a 3 months transfer in the new year...so I've been looking around for stuff...)

Ok...I would go to Paris...but:
Montreal is very nice too
People are friendlier in Montreal.
Living in the city is very cheap I live in a large 7 rooms+ basement in the hippest neighborhood for $1000/month (canadian...so maybe $1300 US). I am curently looking for the equivalent in Paris and the prices are around 2500 to 4000 Euros...so that is like 5000 to 8000 US...
But Paris will always be Paris and it is AMAZING,...so if you can afford it...go there, if not well Montreal feels very Europeen and we speek french...I guess it would be second best...

Montreal is hard to get around I find and the people are not friendly. Paris seems a little better. I would not even consider going to Montreal for a "french" experience. The language is very slangy compared to continental French. Of course, Montrealers will all scream BS when they read this but it is true true true

CrazyCate is correct. However if you are a bit heathen public sex partner swapping clubs are legal in Canada, not yet in France. And Paris does not offer wonderful bagels and smoked meat (like pastrami) sandwiches as Montreal does. Otherwise, though Montreal is great, Paris is doubly so.

Montreal is great but go to Paris!
It is Europe after all. History, art, museums, architecture and more. It will cost more of course but it is worth it! I live in Montreal and it can not compare to Paris.

Paris, for sure! BUT if you wanna go to a city where you can get drunk and go club hopping all night long, then Montreal would be a good place to fit in! :)

Paris a thousand times over. sorry! It's the history. it's Notre Dame Cathedral, the Seine, the Left Bank, the Louvre, the Tuilieries (spelling?), the simple magic of standing where the revolution took place, where Dicken's characters lived, where people like Hemingway and other "literati and artistes" turned in the 20's and beyond...etc.

Montreal is lovely...been there several times too...but not in the same league.
