this is the turning point for a story i'm writing. if you need background, the scheme is that the main character goes on a business trip to dubai (in the u.a.e. or, the united arab emirates), negligent of her passport's expiration date. upon departure, the customs officials deny her and she is ultimately stuck there.
-how long would you be detained?
-would the american embassy intervene?
-would there be a way to return to america via an alternate & urgent route back home?

I was told that sometimes when the travel companies have open seats that they would offer lower pricing for the open seats to customers as a last minute deal. Is anyone familar with how this works? What do you have to do to find out about these last minute offers?

I can only remember them doing this for the past couple of years. During the walkthrough to make sure all seatbelts are fastened, tray tables up, and seat backs in the upright position, they're now making all shades go up.
