really depends on time of day from 11am to 6 pm give yourself at least half an hour

Two weeks ago it took me two hours and a half, but that may have been because of the scare over liquids. I would say if you want to be safe especially at Heathrow, get there 3 hours early, especially if it is an international flight.

I bet it still takes ages, my friend just flew over and tried using fast track to speed things up. The queue was a hour long. Forget it instead take luggage at least you'll be comfortable when you arrive. Plus there's a very good chance to smuggle a bit of smoke, all the dogs are searching for explosive materials.
