I make sure to stay up about 18-24 hours before I have to take a long flight, after that much time awake I fall to sleep right away and if I don't I order a drink and the next thing I know, I'm there

I'm going on an 8 hour flight in two weeks time and am still praying and hoping i'll be allowed to take a book with me! you know rules change by the day. Right now i don't even know if i'll be allowed a flight bag in the cabin (Going to the USA). I agree with everyone ... Watch the movie and sleep if you can. Personally i'd rather become engrossed in Tolstoi's War and Peace LOL But then ... Have to wait until i get there to know if it's OK!

9 hours isn't too bad. watch a couple of movies if it's during the day. if it's a night flight, it's best to carry on one of those eye masks cos they help sleep by blocking out the screen lights that flicker through most flights... if you find it hard sleeping on planes, sleeping pills are always an option. Just make sure you get someone to wake you up!

And remember, the rules of flying - bring a bottle of water, wear comfy, warm socks and easily removable shoes, try to find headphone adapter that fits into the plane's headphone jack so you can use your own, bring an iPod if you have one... and a good book if you're a reader.

And if someone hot is sitting next to you, talk to them! hehe... although i find that the hot person is always sitting two rows in front to the right. :p

I travel transatlantic from the West coast of the USA about once a year. I've found - if you can't sleep - you can do plenty of different things. But I can't do anything for 10-12 hours straight. I take a book, crosswords, work & maybe music. But these days I travel business or first class & get great entertainment - watched 3 movies last trip in June, coming back. I also love the endless beer service in Virgin's first class - just wave the empty 24oz MGD in the air & hey presto - there's another one :-)

If I were you, I would take a flight that is in the evening when its dark, that way you can get a good rest in and the flight will go by faster for you. Since they do not allow you to take any kind of books or anything to read on board anymore.

the planes have TV you can watch and radio you can listen to,

you can sleep,

you can eat, drink,

you can buy a Sony PSP and play games, altho the battery charge will only last 6 hours

get an mp3 player

you can talk to the person sittin next to you,
or swap seats so u r sittin next to a hot chick

look out the window
