Those options are available. Check with your smaller airports, as they ussually run deals with the planes and helicpoters available. I've flown on private planes for as little as $50 from San Francisco to LA because the person was going to fly anyway and needed to rack up their flight hours. Small airports are a great deal, but you have to be flexible.

Also, when I worked in a high rise in LA, I could see executives who would commute in helicopters instead of through traffic around downtown. Turned out to be the about the same price as a car service.

Helicopters are way too expensive for normal people to afford for short trips. Besides, we'd have to build landing areas all over the place, but maybe someday this will happen. You can buy and build your own personal helicopter if you really want to. No idea on the price.
