I'm an insurance agent & play golf. But I played golf before I was an insurance agent. But why is that cliche'? Is it true that most business is conducted on the golf course?

Why do we pay for membership to a golf club rather than pay and play clubs. Surely the money spent on Pay and Play clubs would cost less than the membership fees for a year, and you get to play different courses to boot. So why do we do it?

We all know that -1 on a hole is a birdie, -2 is an eagle and -3 is an albatross. But supposing you were to hole your tee shot on a par 5? It has happened, twice as far as I'm aware. What is that called? 10 points for the first correct answer.
