The day before England were humiliated yet again in Tel Aviv, Steve Coppell said in a newspaper in Reading, "England will continue to struggle unless top Premier League clubs produce more home bred players". At start of current campaign, there were 340 registered foreigners playing in top flight and only 11 English born players starting last fixture before Israel V England match. Manchester United and Chelsea had 4 each, Liverpool 2 and Arsenal 1. Would some such rule like in County cricket (say) that no more than two non British born players in any English league club be allowed in any League or Cup match help England to do less appalingly in international matches in future as Coppel contends?

I don't watch soccer often, but when I saw Tim playing against Arsenal, I was very proud of him, may be he is not a very stable player? do you really think that Manchester's Van der sar is better than Tim?!

I'm Scottish, so I don't really care but I just wondered what the English think.

Have the superstar got use to being picked and lost there motavation?

Surely you don't need motavation (even from the manager) if you proud to play for your country but it seems like they just don't care because they are always going to superstars in the eyes of the media.

Maybe England should play Carson, Young, King, Terry, Bridge, Lennon, Huddlestone, Nolan, Downing, Sheringham and Beattie.

What do you guys think? (not about the team I picked but about dropping your superstar players), cause they are just not working.

i ate both teams, but i like chelsea more. i don't care for man u

they are so out of date and they only have ronaldo and rooney, those two are not world beaters.

liverpool have gonalez, pennant, gerrard, alonso, zenden, garcia, bellamy, crouch, kuijt, riise, carragher, finnan, agger, reina, aurelio, sissoko. liverpool are grooming a potential championship team, so man u watch out next season.

This was the second time that England lost in the Euro qualifiers against Israel and the new England manager seriously did it that time. Sven was much better than McClaren when he was around. But because the fact that England lost and drew a few times now, we cannot get through and we won't have a chance at getting the cup in 2010.

I for one am not gonna sit here, let our country be the victim and constantly lose with that pathetic old git lead the team. What do you think? Should he stay or should he go?

i just wonder how much the national sides manager can influence the game(other than a few tactics & line-up etc), surely a bad performance is down to the players

His touch is dreadful, he is too small and he cant score internationally. Ok he scores for Man u but so did Andy Cole and so could I ! They just create so many chances so its easy for him. I admit sometimes he scores the spectacular but once again i refer to my own ability to score a special goal, you just have to go for it once in a while. I was hoping he would be a world class striker for England for years to come but i now think his best years are behind him and that he will be the new Francis Jeffers (remember how he was hyped up?)

I went to the new Wembley yesterday hoping to see the England players of the future Bentley played brilliant dominating midfield, Routledge had a good game as well as far as work rate is concerned. When Derbyshire and Huddlestone came on they played very well , apart from that , Richardson - appaling he looks like a championship player. Ferdinand - same as his brother in name only , was ball watching for at least two of the goals. Rosenior - fair game. Reo - Coker Terrible done one good tackle all game and was responsible for a bad back pass. Agbonlahor - anonymous was he really playing? It seems Pearson didn't start with the strongest eleven, why ? I don't know and also appreciate that a few u 21s also play for the first team, but looking at the Italian team who had 5/6 classy players, we were pretty ordinary and a few are definately championship quality.

At the start of today's match between Rep. of Ireland v Wales I noticed that NONE of the Welsh players sung the national anthem or even appeared proud or emotional.Contrast this with last week's rugby match against England..nearly all the players were singing with pride and emotion...I wonder why this difference.
