I'm Scottish, so I don't really care but I just wondered what the English think.
Have the superstar got use to being picked and lost there motavation?
Surely you don't need motavation (even from the manager) if you proud to play for your country but it seems like they just don't care because they are always going to superstars in the eyes of the media.
Maybe England should play Carson, Young, King, Terry, Bridge, Lennon, Huddlestone, Nolan, Downing, Sheringham and Beattie.
What do you guys think? (not about the team I picked but about dropping your superstar players), cause they are just not working.

I realy think they should put the under 21s out at least they will be trying to prove them self at that leval
the superstars know the team it is always the same if no injurys you can guarantee it would be
robinson
neville ferdinand terry cole
gerrard lampard hargreaves cole
owen rooney
the players know this and it will never change how ever bad or well they play it will be the same who ever is in charge aswell

I have really been thinking about this since watching the match yesterday. I'm no expert, but I would think that in a team of so many superstars the key to success would be to develop a system that uses them all to the best of their abilities, and if that's not possible, to come up with a system that most effectively helps your team even if the superstars aren't playing where they normally do (i.e. Gerrard on the right). I think that's kind of what England are doing, but there are obviously problems.
I'd think that with a team full of so many big names, you'd need a manger who has dealt with that sort of situation before as one would have to do at Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter or AC Milan, Chelsea, Man Utd or Arsenal. Experience with that type of team, not just managerial experience, is something that I would be looking for in the person to lead my team of superstars.
Take the example of Michael Ballack and Andriy Shevchenko at Chelsea this season (I know people hate Chelsea, but bear with me in the example). Both are well-established club and international players and captains. Both are currently playing in Jose Moruinho's system that doesn't necessarily play to their strengths, but they don't have to proove that they are good footballers. They are. Everyone knows Sheva can score goals; he's scored more in the Champions league than almost anyone, and I wouldn't get in Ballack's way for any amount of money. Part of the reason they've been so quiet this season has to be the factor of adjusting to English football, but another part is that they are being used in different roles at Chelsea than they have at their previous clubs. Drogba and Lampard are on goal scoring tears, and many of those are courtesy of Sheva's setups. Claude Makelele pretty much holds down the fort in the middle and Michael Essien is having probably the best year of his life, whereas Lampard has scored 20 goals from midfield. It's natural that Ballack would have to find his place. The superstars of England are going to have to do the same, but it can't be such a haphazard placement, the manager has to put the right players in the right spots!
Finally, there seems to be no Plan B. When things aren't working in the first half (i.e. no goals b/c the defence have 7 men in the penalty area the entire time), there has to be another plan of attack. Don't ask me what, I'm no expert, but it just seems like someone needs to come up with another idea.
In closing, I think a team of superstar players can work if you have the right person leading it, diffusing egos, and setting up a system that works to players' strengths that also has a backup plan.

i dont know about sheringham now! but a couple of years ago yes!!! i think they should drop all the superstars and make them fight to earn there shirts back with substitute apperances!!!!! you cant blame the manager entirely the players have to answer for there selves! just look at the players that played they should of been more than capable of getting a result against israel!!!!! they have no pride and they are a disgrace!!!!!!! bring back the team of 66 that is left at least they play with pride and they would do a better job than the current team even at there age!!!!!!!! i have to make an exception for the only player in the team that ISNT ENGLISH!!! owen hargreaves! he plays with pride for england and the proper english players havent got any heart and pride for there country!!

You have got a good point there, and as you say they should not need motivating to play for their country ?, i think most of the blame must be pointed towards McLaren though, if these players can put in performances for their clubs each week then why can't they do it for their country ??. To me McLaren comes across as arrogant and not that popular with the players !!.

Beckham should be back in our midfield and he should have played David Nugent from the bench for the last 15/20 minutes. You would have seen some passion then.

nope these are our best player
they just lack passion and fight
he needs to motivate them
also not paying them when they are underachieving is a good idea but I'm not sure if that lies in his hands
the Scottish have done well and i congratulate u
but i think England will scrape it and qualify by the skins of there necks

I just fink he should quit. You know a good coach by his product. He isn't a good one. Perhaps, Sven was better but Alex Ferguson would do a better job.
