I say he'd probably be sitting behind Donovan, Johnson and Dempsey...Just nudging out Wolff for the last striker spot on the bench.

Give the US a few more years. The kids who were very young at the '94 cup are just starting to break thru. The game is young here. As stated previously, the US population dwarfs that of England. The US will win the cup before England does (provided you don't somehow bribe FIFA into giving you the 2018 WC), statistics and time will bear that out. As for Rooney, love the player, hate the attitude, and he can have any striker or midfield position he wants on the US national team. For a couple years. . .

Americans talking about Football (not soccer) that`s like Bush saying he is not really crazy, just 99% of the time.
America would never get a team good enough to earn the right to play on the same ground as Rooney, or even the Ladies England team.
You lot just stick to rounders........... :-)

STOP confusing British with English.
The Americans have over 200 million people to choose their team from.
The English have 55 million.
The Scots have less than 6 million.
The Irish less than 4 million.
The Welsh less than 2 million.
What give you the right to make any comparison between any of these national teams with their long track records and an American team that can barely play the game without wanting to change the rules to suit TV advertising.

Would Rooney even want to be picked for your shower!?

I doubt it but he would steam roller your so called stars, and him being far from our best player.

The problem with England is finding the right balance, and that means not playing Gerrard and Lampard at the same time. Also we could do with a better manager, one with a clue.

Ignoramus, learn your geography. ~For footballing purposes, Rooney is English, NOT British. Scotland did NOT get held to an embarrassing nothing each draw with Israel last night. And your obscene bastardisation of cricket, rugby and netball makes me feel as a nation, you shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a football pitch!! NOT "soccer" FOOTBALL!!!

What a crock of $hit the only good players you have that are good is because they've been developed into good players because they play in the english league , which is the best league in the world. Are you under the impression that Beckham is off to the states to further his career and not for the money then.. joker!

Ask any soccer fan in Europe if they have even heard of Donovan, Dempsey or Johnson. To me, Donovan is a hippy band, Dempsey an ex-Chelsea player, and Johnson an American nickname for a penis. American. Penis. Get it?

Marty is right. The Americans don't even have a football team in the Olympics or the World Cup.

LMFAO! you've got to be kidding. Rooney isn't the best player anyway but he would probably take the whole US team alone.
